Covering all styles from the Dion & The Belmonts influenced Young Lions to the Ink Spots inspired Four Pals. Set opens with a trio of bright up-tempo numbers by The Derbys, Standards & Monorays before going into—still up-tempo—teen/high school mode with Little Tom & His Valentines and Ronnie Height. Then come the first clutch of ballads. The intimate whirling harmonies of the dreamy ‘First Kiss’ by The El Vireos followed by the sublime ‘Teenage Sweetheart’ (the black Mystics) featuring a floating falsetto repeating the lead’s lines.
Fans of the spoken bridge will find much to delight them here including one track which features not one but two narrations followed by the monolinguist breaking out into a sob!
Rumbling basses and wailing falsettos galore!
Fans of Shep & The Limelites will flip for Bobby Mac’s tender ‘How Was Your Weekend?’ whilst Lymon fans are in for a treat with Richard Lanham’s incredibly catchy ‘On Your Radio’ with its extended sax solo, followed by John Capri’s ‘When I’m Lonely’ featuring two sax breaks and a guitar solo.
Other groups here include The Castle-Tones with their spine-tingling ‘We Met At A Dance’ and The Darchaes with ‘Jocko Sent Me’. Also: The Lincolns, Del-Larks, Adelphis, Nino & The Ebb Tides.
